What is FDIC?
In short
The United States regulator that supervises banks and backs deposits held at insured banks.
The FDIC is the regulator that supervises banks in the United States. It also insures deposits, so money held at a bank it covers is protected within its limit. Each covered bank carries a certificate number, and that number is the quickest way to confirm the bank is genuinely there. Axos Bank holds FDIC cert 35546, while Bank of America holds FDIC cert 25178 and Barclays US holds FDIC cert 57203. Banco Santander holds FDIC cert 29950 and Bank of Guam holds FDIC cert 20884. The full list of banks sits in the FDIC register.
