What is APRA?

In short

APRA is the Australian regulator that checks banks and lenders are financially sound enough to keep running.

APRA, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, supervises banks and lenders in Australia. It holds institutions to capital and risk standards, so a lender carrying an APRA licence has been checked for financial soundness. Commonwealth Bank Ltd publishes its licence as 234945. Alex.Bank, Credit24, ING Australia and Macquarie Bank also sit under APRA on BorrowCue.
