How to choose private student loans

Compare private student loans on amount, annual cost, term, fees and who actually lends the money, using Andacredito, Creditio and Finmercado as worked examples.

Start with the amount, and the market it belongs to

Private student loans differ most in scale, and scale is the first thing to check. Andacredito offers amounts of €100 to €5,000, Creditio offers €100 to €500,000, and Finmercado offers MXN 500 to MXN 200,000 inside a single market. Andacredito and Creditio are priced in euros while Finmercado is priced in pesos, so a peso figure cannot be placed next to a euro one until you convert the whole repayment rather than the borrowing alone. Across our listings, amounts run €4.48 to €167,700.82, a spread wide enough that the number you start with decides the payment you finish with.

Set that starting figure against the full cost of the course, then check the product actually covers study fees. Andacredito lists student lending among personal, payday and car and Creditio among personal, debt consolidation and car, so both arrange money for study alongside other purposes. Finmercado presents personal borrowing and does not name a student category, so ask its lenders directly whether course fees are an eligible purpose before you spend time on an application.

Compare the annual cost, not the monthly payment

The monthly instalment is the least useful number on the sheet, because it hides the rate and the length behind it. Andacredito's annual rate of 0% to 36% sits alongside Creditio's 3% to 36% and Finmercado's from 677.47%. The euro brokers price on a variable basis, variable at Andacredito and variable at Creditio, so the figure you are offered can move between applications and a rate only means something together with the ceiling it is quoted under.

Across our listings, annual rates run 0% to 23.58%. The distance between the ends of that range matters more than any headline figure, because a small percentage difference applied to a large balance becomes a large difference in what you repay. Ask each provider for the rate that would apply to your own file, in writing, and hold those written answers next to each other. A published range is a marketing line; a rate on your file is a price.

Match the term to the course, not the other way round

Term length decides whether a loan fits a course or fights it. Andacredito offers terms of 2 to 3, which is short enough to bridge a gap between payments rather than to carry a degree. Creditio offers 2 to 240, a far wider door that can stretch a student balance across many years.

Across our listings, terms run 1 to 240. Work backwards from your graduation date rather than forwards from the start of the course, and choose a term that ends when your course ends. Then check the payment again if your course runs longer than planned. A longer term lowers the instalment and raises the total, so the smallest monthly figure is often the most expensive loan in the group.

Fees: what leaves the account before you see the money

On a student loan, an origination fee comes straight out of the first payment, so it is worth naming. Andacredito's origination fee on a student loan is free, listed at 0 EUR, and Creditio's is free as well at 0 EUR. Finmercado does not publish an origination fee here and its partner lenders set their own, so treat the absence as a question rather than as a saving.

Early repayment is the fee students meet most often, because a course can end early and a first salary can arrive sooner than planned. Andacredito allows free early repayment. Creditio and Finmercado do not state early settlement terms in this comparison, so ask what a part payment costs before you plan to make one. Free early repayment paired with a variable rate is the combination that rewards finishing sooner.

Know who you actually sign with

Andacredito is a broker and so is Creditio, broker. Neither lends the money itself; each introduces you to a lender. The legal entity behind Andacredito is Fininity OU, and the one behind Creditio is WITME ADVERTISING S.L., so the contract you sign may name a different company from the site you applied on.

That arrangement has a purpose and a price. Creditio states that funds come from the lender you connect to, and Finmercado works only with accredited Mexican lending partners, so the offer and its terms are set by the partner rather than by the site. Check the lender named in the contract, the rate attached to it and the fee it charges, in that order. Application checks are a soft prequalification for Creditio, soft prequal, and for Finmercado, soft prequal, so a first look need not decide your application, though you should confirm what data each partner reads.

Eligibility, speed and where to read more

Eligibility is where student loans differ most in practice. Andacredito asks for adults with a bank account in Spain and the ability to repay, and it accepts a poor credit history, poor. Creditio asks for adults and targets residents of Spain plus the country sites listed in its menu. Finmercado serves a single market, Mexico, through accredited Mexican lending partners; those partners apply their own minimum age, and an INE and an active bank account are required. Finmercado also works with a poor credit history, poor.

Speed matters when enrolment fees fall due. Andacredito, Creditio and Finmercado all list same day funding. Andacredito's stated funding time is 10 minutes, Creditio gives a decision in minutes with the money arriving from the lender you connect to, and Finmercado's application is quick, with partner lenders answering in minutes and paying into your bank account.

Help after the money lands is worth checking too: Andacredito offers support by email, while Creditio offers email and phone. Read the Andacredito review, the Creditio review and the Finmercado review in full, set them beside the Private student loans ranking, and compare them with profiles such as Oney Préstamos ES and Wannacash ES before you commit.
